Personal Statement

Since I first appeared in a Courtroom on behalf of my first client I have wanted to be a Judge. Judge's are the backbone of our legal system and are the people that must ensure the system is fair and works for all citizens. After practicing law for almost 20 years I have discovered another reason I want to be a circuit court Judge; I have found that there is a general lack of respect among many jurists toward attorneys, court clerks and litigants. Our judicial system is based on fairness and the system cannot be effective if the Judge does not respect all parties in the court room. Another important topic for me is that justice must be blind. This sounds old and cliché, but the statement is still relevant almost 600 years after the first known sculpture depicting a blindfolded Lady of Justice, known as Gerechtigkeitsgasse, appeared in Bern Switzerland. If there is prejudice in the court system then it fails all members of society. I am running to be your Judge to ensure that the legal system continues to fair, respectful and " blind."
